Old And New Bluffton Tours

HISTORY OF BLUFFTON, SOUTH CAROLINA
Historic Old Town Bluffton is perched atop high river bluffs overlooking the pristine waters known as the May River.  Bluffton was incorporated in 1852 and visitors enjoy learning its history that includes the American Yemassee Indians and vigorous Civil War activities at the Town's official welcome center, the Heyward House.  Bluffton developed and grew in the early 1800's due to its popularity as a summer retreat from the heat.  The attraction was the strong southerly breezes providing much desired relief from the heat and from the infectious mosquitoes of the plantations.
